CONFIRMING REQUIREMENTS

We send you a design contract.  This confirms all your requirements and gives a fixed price for the design.  This covers a Site Survey, Presentation Plans, Planting Plans, Scope of Works Document and, if appropriate, Construction Detailing and a full Specification.

First Phase - Design

SURVEY AND SITE ANALYSIS

We survey the space to ascertain levels, dimensions, aspect, soil pH and any other element that may affect the design process.  For larger schemes we may need to employ the services of a surveyor.  In such cases, there will be a 10% charge on top of the surveyor's fees.

CONCEPT PLANS, PRESENTATION PLANS AND CONSTRUCTION DETAILING

Initial concepts are prepared for discussion.Illustrations, photographs and other visual aids are used to communicate our ideas. At this stage we also show you samples of hard landscaping materials.  Construction detailing is drawn up for the landscapers as required.

PLANTING PLANS

After a discussion of your wish list and plant preferences we prepare a Planting Plan and Plant Schedule that shows species, sizes and numbers required.  As well as adhering to the overall theme, plants are selected to suit the garden's aspect and soil pH.

SCOPE OF WORKS/SPECIFICATIONS

Depending on the complexity of the project and whether a tender process is required either a Scope of Works or Specification Document will be prepared for the landscapers.  This document assists in the construction of the garden with all materials being listed and, if necessary, construction methods specified.

Second Phase - Implementation

CONSTRUCTION AND PROJECT MONITORING

Garden Arts work with a range of different experts such as lighting designers and irrigation companies. In many cases, our clients are happy to accept our recommendation about who should build the garden. Denise will monitor the construction phase. In some cases, a competitive tender will be used. Denise will prepare full tender documentation and manage the tender process on your behalf by contacting experienced landscapers.  Fees for this second phase are agreed when the design is complete.
